Notice of Posting – Arborfield Transition Implementation Plan

 Pursuant to Section 63(3) of The School Division Administration Regulations; 

The board of education, in consultation with the school community councils of the affected schools, must develop and adopt an implementation plan respecting the closure of the school or the discontinuance of one or more grades taught in the school, by not later than June 15 of the year in which these changes are to come into effect.

North East School Division No. 200

Notice of Intent to Change School Attendance Area Boundaries

Under authority of Section 85(1)(i) and Section 122(1) of The Education Act, 1995 the Board of Education made the following motion at their meeting held on May 30, 2023:

That beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, the attendance area for Arborfield School of the North East School Division No. 200 will be allotted to the Carrot River attendance area for grades 7 to 12 in accordance with the map and land locations described on our website at www.nesd.ca .

And that the proposed changes will be communicated in local area papers and correspondence will be sent to the affected families;

And that the Board will be accepting written submissions and/or delegations sharing any concerns about the proposed changes at the June 20, 2023 Regular Board Meeting.

A written submission should be sent to the division office at 402 Main Street, Box 6000 Melfort SK S0E 1A0 by June 13, 2023. 

Anyone wishing to appear as a delegation must contact the Director of Education at 306-752-5741 by June 13, 2023 as per Board Policy No. 103.4 (Meetings).

Notice of Grade 7-12 Discontinuance

at Arborfield School in Arborfield, Saskatchewan

That pursuant to Sections 55 and 57 of The School Division Administration Regulations, the Board of Education for the North East School Division No. 200 of Saskatchewan gives notice of grade 7-12 grade discontinuance at Arborfield School in Arborfield, Saskatchewan.

On April 25, 2023, the following motion was passed by the NESD Board of Directors:

Whereas the Board of Education of the North East School Division No. 200 of Saskatchewan identified Arborfield School under Board Policy 114: School Viability Review as meeting the criteria for a school viability review; And whereas the Board continued the review after materials relevant to the closure of Arborfield School were reviewed;  Therefore pursuant to Section 63(1) of The School Division Administration Regulations, the Board moves to discontinue grades 7 through 12 at Arborfield School in Arborfield Saskatchewan, effective July 3, 2023.

NOTICE TO ELECTORS

Please take notice that at its regular meeting of January 27, 2023, the Board of Education of the North East School Division passed the following motion:

Therefore, it is moved that pursuant to Section 61(1) of The School Division Administration Regulations, the Board will consider the potential closure of the Arborfield School in Arborfield, Saskatchewan or discontinuance of one or more grades taught in the Arborfield School, as the case may be; effective July 3, 2023.

Arborfield School Review Update - 01/16/2023

 

Background

On September 29th, 2022, the Board of Education of the North East School Division passed motions to consider grade discontinuance or closure of Arborfield School. The school was identified for review based on Board Policy.

 

The School Review Committee Report to the Board of Education

The School Review Committee consists of four members of the school community council, two people appointed by the town of Arborfield and two people appointed by the council of municipalities.

Over the last few months, the Committee shared information and gathered feedback from the community.  On January 10th, 2023, the School Review Committee shared the community feedback with the Board of Education.  The Board of Education would like to extend appreciation for the work of the committee.

Next Decision

During the January 27th, 2023, Board Meeting (originally schedules for January 17th), the Board of Education will move to suspend the review or to continue to consider school closure or grade discontinuance.  If the Board decides to suspend the review, the school review process will be considered completed.

 

Additional Family and Student Feedback Request

In addition to the community feedback presented by the Review Committee on January 10th, the Board of Education is seeking additional input related to current and future Arborfield student high school experiences.  Families who have students in the Arborfield catchment are asked to complete a short survey.  Grade 7-12 students will also be asked to complete a short survey. 

The survey will close on Monday January 16th at 9:00 PM.

Notice of Intention to Review grades K-12 at Arborfield School, Arborfield, Saskatchewan

That pursuant to Sections 55 and 57 of The School Division Administration Regulations, the Board of Education for the North East School Division No. 200 of Saskatchewan gives notice of its intention to review the viability of Grades Kindergarten to Grade 12 at Arborfield School, Arborfield, Saskatchewan.

And further, per Board Policy 114, take notice that the Board’s review criteria are if a school’s enrolment in the next academic year is projected to be less than 88 for a K – 12.

and any one or more of the following criteria apply to the school:

a. If there are projected to be three or more grades, or more than three simultaneous course offerings in a classroom.

b. If the projected enrolment would leave fewer than two students in a grade

c. If the projected enrolment is such that staffing allotment by formula will require consideration of more than triple grading.

d. If the structural integrity of the school building presents safety or other concerns that would require a significant capital expenditure.


That pursuant to section 59 of The School Division Administration Regulations the Board establishes a School Review Committee for Arborfield School to consist of the following members:

a. four individuals appointed by the School Community Council of Arborfield School but not including a teacher or principal appointed by the School Community Council;

b. two individuals appointed by the Town of Arborfield

i. One of whom is an elected member of the town; and
ii. One of whom is not an elected member but is a resident of the town of Arborfield.

c. excluding the municipality mentioned in clause (b) two individuals jointly appointed by the following municipalities:

i. Rural Municipality of Arborfield No. 456, Rural Municipality of Bjorkdale No. 426, Rural Municipality of Connaught No. 457 and Rural Municipality of Moose Range No. 486:
• One of whom is an elected member of the council of one of those municipalities; and
• One of whom is a resident of one of those municipalities but not an elected member of the council of any municipality.
